Two rousing games were played on Sunday after at Chastain Park, as Edna James’ Huskies and Andy Luick’s Tigers advanced to play in the major’s finals. The finals will be played at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, at 6:35 at the NYO gym at Chastain Park.
In the first game of the day, the Huskies, led by Lila Langston, broke open a very tight game against the Irish, coached by Bill Toomey, late in the first half. The Huskies went to a full court press, and extended a 9-8 lead to 16-9 at the half. The Irish, behind Jenna Huff, worked hard and chipped away at the led throughout the second half, but were never able to grab the lead again. The Huskies pulled away at the end of the game, and won 36-25.
The second game featured the Cardinals, coached by coaches Foster and Siskin, against Andy Luick’s Tigers. The game was close through-out, and featured 4 lead changes in the 4th quarter. For the Tigers, Harper Pemberton’s aggressive defense and break-away lay-ups and Elizabeth Luick’s clutch play in the 4th quarter (when she scored 5 of her 7 points) pulled them to a 20-19 victory. The Cardinals, led by Charlotte Sirk’s drives and excellence at the foul line, and Ellie Siskin’s inside play, watched 2 shots fall off of the rim in the last 10 seconds of the game, either of which would have won the game for the Cardinals.
Come watch the finals on Wednesday night at NYO as the top seeded and regular season champion Huskies take on the 6th seeded Tigers, and see who takes home the tournament championship.
