Team Conway Takes Title in Inaugural NYO Alumni 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

This Saturday, 16 teams packed into the NYO gym on a rainy morning for the first ever NYO Alumni 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, but only one team emerged victorious. Ross Conway, Jake Espenlaub, and Jack Murphy ran the table, going 5-0 against a very competitive field to walk away with the trophy. Team Conway took down some talented teams on their way to the final and was faced with a scrappy squad comprised of Jack Kidd, Noel Hardin, and William Linginfelter in the championship game. Team Kidd hung tough, but in the end it was the relentless scoring of Espenlaub combined with lockdown defense from Conway and timely shooting from Jack Murphy that won the day.All in all, the tournament was a huge success. The event drew participants with a wide range of experience at the organization – there were many longtime NYO veterans, who once played and now coach in the league, as well as some new NYO coaches and parents of players currently playing in the league. The tournament was extremely well received and looks sure to become a longstanding NYO tradition. To get the chance to participate in future NYO alumni activities, and to support vital NYO programs such as the Christopher League and the NYO Scholarship Program, join the alumni association today - Remember, it’s not just former NYO players who qualify as alumni – any former NYO parent, coach, player, or official is invited…

Alumni rise early, work hard for NYO

Alexis Gottlieb could have gone home to sleep after her night shift as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Instead, she headed to the Dowis Building for a 7:30 a.m. meeting of the newly formed NYO Alumni Association. ‘NYO is my entire childhood,’ Alexis says. ‘I started going to watch my brothers play baseball and basketball when I was about three months old, played baseball, softball and basketball through age 16 and continue to watch my sister play softball (as a 24-year-old). I . . . even decided to go into nursing after volunteering with the Christopher League.’ (Read More, Click Headline or Photo)
