PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs and Strategic Communications Rick Thorpe today announced the hiring of Ryan Gottlieb as Associate Athletic Director for Sales Strategy and Business Intelligence. Gottlieb, an eight-year veteran in ticketing and revenue generation, joins the Scarlet Knights after he served as the Director of Sales and Service at Georgia Tech from 2014-17.
“I am extremely grateful to Pat Hobbs, Sarah Baumgartner and Rick Thorpe for providing me with this incredible opportunity,” said Gottlieb. “Rutgers University has a tremendous reputation and it is truly an honor to be a part of this institution.”
In his role at RU, Gottlieb will provide oversite to all ticketing activities, which include the construction of the 18-month ticket marketing, sales and service plan, development of revenue/attendance driving initiatives and building a robust business intelligence plan. Gottlieb will also serve as the primary managerial contact for Rutgers’ ticketing operations and athletic department’s ticket-related partnerships with IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions and Paciolan.
“We are very pleased and thrilled to have Ryan join our team here at Rutgers,” said Thorpe. “He has a proven track record of success at the Power 5 level while competing in a major market. Ryan will play an integral role in generating the needed revenues and attendance to support our student athletes to the fullest.”
Gottlieb enjoyed two separate stints at Georgia Tech, most recently from 2014-17. During that time, Gottlieb was responsible for the Aspire Group’s partnership with the Georgia Tech Athletics Association. There, Gottlieb was responsible for three ticketing teams; Season Ticket Service and Retention, New Business Development and Group Sales Department.
With the help of Gottlieb, the Yellow Jackets set an all-time school record for total ticket revenue in school history in 2015, as the football program averaged more than 50,000 fans per game that year. Gottlieb was also a member of the Georgia Tech ticketing department that won the prestigious Paciolan “Star of the Year Award” in 2014 for embracing technology and strategic innovation.
Prior to his return to Georgia Tech, Gottlieb managed the Aspire Group’s partnership with UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. At UAB, the Blazers Fan Relationship Management Center experienced a 90-percent growth in revenue.
From 2011-13, Gottlieb managed the Aspire Group’s partnership with Louisiana Tech University. While at Louisiana Tech, Gottlieb and his team played an integral role in setting records for most football season tickets sold in school history in back to back years, 2011 and 2012.
Gottlieb started his career in the sports sales industry, selling football and basketball season tickets in the Georgia Tech Fan Relationship Management Center from 2009-11.
