TENTATIVE Dates for 2018 Season – February 27, 2018

Registration for Returning Players – April 23 thru May 4, 20187 beginning at 8:00 AM.
NYO expects more players to register than can be accommodated. Parents are encouraged to register promptly. “Returning Players” are those that played football at NYO during the 2017 season. The registration fee is $380.00. Players which register after these dates will be placed on the wait list and accepted as space allows.

Registration for Players new to NYO Football – May 7 thru May 18, 2018 beginning at 8:00 AM. Registration for new players, meaning those that did not participate in the NYO Football program in 2017 and any returning players that missed the earlier registration must be completed during these dates. Registration is done online through www.NYOSports.com. The registration fee is $380.00. ALL new players are automatically placed on a Wait List. NYO expects more players to register than can be accommodated; registration & receipt of a tryout # through the on-line system do NOT mean that a player has been accepted in to the program. Acceptance notices will be e-mailed on the following month. Parents are encouraged to register on May 7th. Players which register after these dates will be placed on the wait list and accepted as space allows.

Late Registration

Players that missed the normal registration period in April & May should register online through NYO’s website. They will be automatically placed on wait list. NYO will accept them shortly thereafter subject to capacity in the program.

Acceptance within NYO Football Program – June 8, 2018
By this date NYO will accept as many players as possible from those which have registered. Acceptance will be communicated by email. Parents should be sure that their spam filters do not block emails from emails ending with “@NYOsports.com”. Players not accepted in to the program will remain on a wait list in the event that space later becomes available. If additional spaces become available prior to tryouts, those on the waitlist will be immediately contacted by email.

Dick’s Shopping Days – Sunday, July 22rd (football helmets only) & Saturday, August 4th (big day!) NYO families will receive a 15% discount at Dicks this day. To take advantage of the discounts, NYO families should check in with the NYO volunteer who will be in the store on this day. The head coach of each team will get a $50 coupon at Dicks on this day.

Coaches Meeting – July 26, 2018 5:00 – 7:00

All coaches should attend. This meeting will be at The Ivy Buckhead on the second floor located at 3717 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA 30342.

Equipment Day – Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
NYO sponsors the sale of equipment at Chastain Park as a service to NYO families and a means to raise funds for NYO. For parents this is a good opportunity to purchase quality equipment that is properly fitted. Volunteers from the coaching group will be needed during this day. Please email John Baker if you are available for a two hour shift.

Heads Up – On-line Certification to be completed – July 31, 2018
All coaches need to complete this online course by this date. See page 13 for log-in information.

New Coaches Clinic – July 29, 2018 – 4:30 to 7:30

All coaches can benefit for this clinic and should plan to attend. For coaches with less than three years experience with NYO Football, this clinic is mandatory. The location for the clinic is in the NYO gym.

Submit Protected Players to League Commissioner – Tuesday, July 31st
Coaches sons are considered to “protected” meaning they cannot be drafted by other teams. Each head coach is to email the commissioner for his league the player(s) to be protected by his team.

Training Camp – August 1 – 2, 2018 4:30 – 7:30 PM

The objective of Training Camp is to enhance player safety by providing focused instruction on Heads Up techniques, light conditioning and heat acclimation before tryouts. NYO has partnered with the Kids and Pros organization which is operated by former Atlanta Falcons Buddy Curry and Bobby Butler to oversee this function but Training Camp session will be led by NYO coaches. NYO coaches must attend on the respective days for their league.

Tryouts – (Monday & Tuesday – August 6th & 7th, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM
Specific details for parents about tryouts will appear on the NYO website in early August, 2018. Try-outs will be held on these dates from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chastain Park. Players & coaches will only attend one day of tryouts. Players will be divided into groups based grade as to which day & time they will attend. Players in grades 2, 4 & 6 will attend on August 6th; players in grades 3, 5 & 7 will attend on August 7th. Parents will receive instructions by email shortly before tryouts about their specific arrival time and this information will also be available through NYO’s website. Players are to wear full football equipment. They will be weighed, timed and evaluated in full-contact drills. If thunder storms require either or both of these days to be cancelled, the activities from one or both days will be held on Wednesday, August 8th beginning at 5:00.

Player Rankings – August 10, 2018 at noon
By this date, each team must send to the League Director two items:

  1. A list of the protected players and the draft round in which each team suggests those players be slotted.
  2. A list of those players your team projects being drafted in the first three rounds of the draft

Make up Tryout – August 11, 2018 10:00 AM
This will be only for those players who were unable to attend the tryouts on August 6th & 7th. Players must attend either the Tryout on August 6, 7 or 11 in order to be eligible for the draft and participate in the NYO season.

Parent Meeting – Saturday, August 11, 2018 — (2:00 – 3:30 in the NYO gym)
All parents are to attend this important meeting which will explain the “Heads Up” player safety program and other important player safety topics. Speakers will include the lead physician form Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s sports medicine practice. A question & answer session specific for the parents of new players will follow. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers.

Drafts – Sunday thru Tuesday — August 12 – 13, 2017

  • 2nd Grade League
  • 3rd Grade League
  • 4th Grade League
  • 5th Grade League
  • Bigs League

The drafts will be conducted at the Dowis Building at Chastain Park. It is imperative that all coaches be well prepared prior to the draft. In that regard, new coaches are encouraged to take the initiative to reach out to the experienced coach assigned to them from the Committee (and other experienced coaches) for specific guidance. A maximum of two (2) coaches per team will be allowed at the draft.

New Assistant Coaches Meeting – August 26, 2018 at 4:30 in the Dowis Building
This is a mandatory meeting for all new assistant coaches who did not attend coach’s clinic on July 29, 2018.

Season Begins – Games begin the on September 4th or 5th.

Character Speaker Event / Opening Night Celebration featuring _______ on September 9, 2018 / 5:00 PM

  • All players and their families from all leagues should attend this popular function. Practices will not be allowed during this evening.
  • Following the speaker the Cheer Leaders will put on a show before all the Bigs football and cheer leading teams are introduced for a fun Sunday night Bigs game.

    Championship Games – Monday, November 12, 2018
    The playoffs will conclude with the championship games for all leagues on this date.

    Peach Bowl – Thursday, November 15, 2018
    All star games for players in grade 3rd and above.

    Red Devil Games – Beginning Friday, November 16, 2018
