Last weekend the 14U Bulls ended their NYO careers by winning the Training Legends Georgia State Championship for All Stars in Dacula, GA. The team started out slow with a tie in the first pool game and then a loss in the second. Then the Bulls got focused. In bracket play, the team won three games by a combined score of 44 – 7. Talk about saving your best for last!
Highlights for the weekend included Ben Tucker and Christopher Binney teaming up at pitcher for a shutout win in our first bracket game. Drew Schipper followed that up pitching a complete game shutout in our second bracket game. James Shaw led the team in hitting racking up 10 hits in our 5 games, he also pitched 5 great innings in the Championship game. Stone Smith did severe damage at the plate including an in-the-park home run and a triple in bracket play. Bear Wight was a force at SS and the plate, he began our last two games with hits as our lead-off hitter. Pearce Dillon’s bat came alive in the bracket play as well as strong defense at first base. Will Hale contributed many hits in the tournament as well as 5 strong pitching innings. Max Ramos had a key Double at the plate in bracket play, was a baserunning force scoring two runs in an inning as a courtesy runner and he had strong defense in CF all weekend. In his final NYO at-bat, Ben Hamer made a one-handed stab of a bunt to squeeze in our final run of the season. Finally, for our last play of the season Ansel Best and Cole Long teamed up for a Catcher to Pitcher put out of a runner stealing home. Wow, what a dramatic ending!
For the season, these boys had a ton of fun and got to play baseball in a lot of new baseball parks. Our most memorable win came against our friends and neighbors, the Riverwood Jr. Raiders. The highlight of our travels around metro Atlanta baseball parks included getting the opportunity to play on Field #2 at East Cobb Baseball, what a cool dugout!
Bulls, enjoy the summer and get some rest, you done good!!
