The 8U Blue Angels claimed their third straight tournament championship this summer- winning the silver bracket of the West Cobb Big Summer Blowout Tourney with a 18-2 win on Sunday morning over the Rhyne Park All Stars.
The Blue Angels played four games on Saturday – shaking off losses to Murphy Candler Black and Paulding County and soundly defeating the hosting West Cobb Xplosion. The stage was then set for a rematch with the Xplosion for a chance at the silver bracket title game in Bailey Stadium on the KSU campus. Mary Edwards and Anna Ford once again had key hits and the back and forth game was tied 9-9 at the end of the sixth inning. The Blue Angels then scored two runs in their half of a heart stopping “one inning shootout” and won the game in the bottom half of the shootout with an unassisted double play by Emily Center. On Sunday morning, the Blue Angels were ready and thrilled to play at KSU Stadium for the title. MacKenzie Williams led the way in the championship game with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs. Emily Center, Asher Gleeson, and Lane Deriso also homered for the Blue Angels and combined for 10 hits and 8 RBIs. Alyssa Herskowitz, Katelyn Modisett, and Olivia Stonecipher also continued with their clutch hitting in the thrilling victory.
In addition to the offensive firepower, the Blue Angels turned in a terrific performance on defense by Piper O’Neill, Asher Gleeson, Ellie Bailey and Kaelyn Rolla to cap off their tournament “three-peat.”
Go Blue Angels!!
