Former NYO baseball star Davis Vainer was drafted by the Houston Astros yesterday, in the 21st round of the major league baseball draft. We are so happy and excited for Davis and his great family. Davis started at NYO as an 8 year old, and he was one of the most prodigious power hitters of his generation. While his arm was always respected, it was primarily used as a weapon to throw out kids from the shortstop position, where he primarily played when he was here. He grew to be a star pitcher at Riverwood High School, and he took that pitching skill to the University of Alabama, where he became a star closer for the Crimson Tide baseball team. Now, on to bigger and better things for Davis, and we hope to see him on the Astros some day (and on the Braves, when he hits free agency). We will follow his career closely.
