NYO Football – Training Camp

What is it?  “Training Camp” is mandatory for all NYO football players.  It includes three (3) days of instruction, light conditioning and heat acclimation.  The Camp is an important player safety measure in preparation for Tryouts and commencement of the season.  NYO coaches will teach fundamental skills to NYO players advancing through the drills that will be used during Tryouts.

What are the Objectives?  

  1. Enhance player safety by providing instruction on proper techniques before tryouts and
  2. Provide players with limited conditioning and heat acclimation.
  3. Instruction of graduated levels of contact

Who should attend?  All NYO football players in the participating in the 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade and Bigs Leagues.

Where should players arrive?

PLEASE STAY OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELDS DURING TRAINING CAMP

What should players wear?  –

  • Day 1 players are to wear helmets, mouth pieces, t-shirts, shorts and football cleats.
  • Days 2 & 3 players are to wear helmets, shoulder pads, football pants, mouth pieces, jerseys, socks and football cleats.

Hydration – Beginning the day before players should properly hydrate prior to arriving at Training Camp.  Players should bring a large bottle of water or sports drink (Gatorade or Powerade).  No energy drinks.  Read more about hydration from NYO’s website:  PROPER HYDRATION

What do parents do during Training Camp?  Parents should remain outside the fences during Training Camp.

Bad Weather – Each day of Training Camp will continue in rainy conditions but will be cancelled in the event of lightning.
