The NYO Longhorns went 4-1 at the Cherokee Open held in Canton GA the weekend of June 7-10, 2018 to win another champions trophy.
After an opening round loss to the Spartans the Longhorns defeated the East Cherokee Bandits 19-9 to end up as the #2 seed in the Silver bracket, including 4 RBI’s from birthday boy Nik Kothari.
The Longhorns showed both great offense and spectacular defense to go 3-0 on Sunday including knockout stage wins against the Kennesaw Express (21-10) and Macedonia Mustangs (20-11). In the bracket championship, the Longhorns played their third game of the day against the well-rested #1 seed, Sandy Plains Cougars. The Longhorns generated enough offense to go ahead by five runs in the sixth inning before closing it out on a pop fly with bases loaded to win 12-10 and lift their second trophy in three weeks.
