For over 50 years, NYO baseball has been a staple in the North Atlanta community. America’s pastime is our pastime. Located in the heart of Chastain Park, Northside Youth Organization’s facilities are second to none featuring nine fields, twelve batting cages, and six pavilions located on our main campus and three additional game fields in the neighborhood. Today, our program serves nearly 1,500 players from ages four to fourteen separated into twelve leagues.
For over 40 years, our boys’ basketball program has been an integral part of the NYO experience during the winter months. Our program in Chastain Park is considered the best recreational basketball program in the city, and boasts nearly 650 players over eight, grade based leagues. With a focus on TEAM basketball and skill development, the leagues are structured so that teams are balanced, and players receive substantial playing time in a competitive and organized learning environment. In addition to our gymnasium at the park, our teams practice and play games in several other local gyms in the neighborhood.
Eight years ago, the Board of Directors at Northside Youth Organization recognized the need to provide a competitive, off-season girls’ basketball program in North Atlanta and created one. NYO Fall Girls’ Basketball is the youngest program in Chastain Park, and it is thriving. With a focus on TEAM basketball and skill development, the leagues are structured so that teams are balanced, and players receive sound fundamental instruction and substantial playing time in a competitive and organized learning environment. The program serves around 250 players over four divisions, and is designed to accommodate girls that also play another fall sport.
The NYO Cheer program is a fantastic complement to our football program in the fall. Our cheer squads consist of girls ages 7 through 11, and they cheer in our Bigs Football League. The cheer season begins with a three-day clinic conducted by in a SNAP Cheerleading. After the clinic, teams average three events per week (practices and games). The program focuses not only on cheer, but also stunting and dance. Towards the end of October, our cheer program hosts the NYO Cheer Off, a friendly competition where our young ladies show off their skills in team centered routines.
The softball program has been an integral part of Northside Youth Organization for over 40 years. What began as a slow pitch program in the early 1970’s, NYO Fastpitch was launched in 1992. Today, the NYO Fastpitch program boasts over 500 players ranging from ages 5 to 18. Centrally located in the heart of Chastain Park, our program has five dedicated fastpitch fields, turf batting cages with pitching machines, and six pavilions for family fun and team camaraderie. Our goal is to provide the best opportunity for players at all levels to enjoy the game of fastpitch softball through non-stop encouragement, instructive guidance, and positive role models.
In 1951, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Coach, Bob Blackwell created a football team of thirteen young boys from North Atlanta. This small football squad, called the Red Devils, would evolve into one of the largest, intra-park football programs in the entire country. Today, Northside Youth Organization’s football program boasts nearly 700 players from Kindergarten through 7th grade separated into six divisions. Thousands of boys through the years have played at NYO and learned both football and life lessons. Many of our NYO Football alumni recall some of their fondest memories as youngsters occurring on the fields at Chastain Park.
