Team Hardin took home the 2nd annual NYO Alumni 3v3 Double Elimination Basketball Tournament on Saturday. The three man team consisted of Noel Hardin, Jack Kidd, and William Linginfelter. Hardin provided the playmaking, Kidd showed an unrelenting motor, and Linginfelter made timely three point shots, including the tournament winner. Team Hardin went undefeated through the winner’s bracket and in a sequel to last years’ championship game, took down last years’ champion, Team Conway (Ross Conway, Jake Espenlaub, and Jack Murphy), in the winner’s bracket final.
The most impressive run of the tournament was made by Team Budd, which consisted of Hunter Budd, Chase Brown, and Grant Harrell. After losing their first game of the tournament to Team Wilkinson (Chapman Wilkinson, Robert Kresser, Joe Bridges), they wheeled off 6 straight wins, including a payback victory over Team Wilkinson and a win over Team Conway in the Loser’s bracket final. After beating Team Hardin in the first game of the championship for their 7th win in a row, they came up short in the final game of the tournament.
The 3 point competition was a new wrinkle added to the tournament this year. After both winning their respective brackets, Robert Kresser defeated Mat Barnwell in the championship to take home the crown.
The tournament consisted of 18 teams and over 65 NYO alumni ranging from age 22 to people in their 40’s. Fun was had by all and most participants stuck around even after being eliminated to watch the final stretch of games. All proceeds from the tournament will go towards funding for the Christopher League, Scholarship programs, and facility improvements.
